0.3 Your Assignment

Your Assignment

You are probably already aware that new information and skills are better remembered when they are put to use. I gave you this assignment so that you could not only learn about the creative process and some of my methods, but also finish a painting that would give your current portfolio some exposure.

At the end of each larger chapter, I will include a step-by-step action plan. In addition, I will include a complete checklist in the next lesson for you to download, copy, and customize as you see fit while working on your own concept art.

So, shall we begin?

Adapting the character concept art to your level of expertise

In this masterclass, I will be using a character that I already created a while ago to demonstrate how quickly you can create new content for your personal projects. And I have decided on a portrait to make it easier for me to explain my techniques. However, I am aware that artists come to this course with varying levels of expertise. So feel free to modify this assignment to meet your current requirements. Here are some examples:

  • If you dislike symmetry, take a 3/4 view or tilt your pose slightly.
  • If you do not want a portrait, go with a full body or tight lengh concept.
  • If the face is too difficult for you right now, you can conceal it with a face mask or an initiate looking veil.
  • If color is not your thing, try a black and white theme.
  • If creating a character is too difficult for you, you can create a torso design (some kind of armor) or make the character's body flat-colored and simply focus on designing the fashion.
  • If you want more artwork, go for a full body with multiple color and shape variations.
  • If you want more realism, feel free to layer more photo textures on top of your final piece.

As you can see, you can tailor your creation to your specific requirements. The main goal of my masterclass is to teach you how to use my system to improve your craft and become more effective.
